Grief - Your role as a Spiritualist and Medium
Suzanne walks the Camino de Santiago de Compostella as a spiritual exercise to refresh herself, body, mind, and spirit, as well as her spiritualism and mediumship.
Hundreds of thousands of people walk Camino each year. The Camino is covered in monuments, both small and large, and public and private. The heartfelt pain caused by loss and grief is palpable along The Way and is a great reminder to all Spiritualists of our journey and our purpose.
Spiritualism and therein, Mediumship is not for entertainment or self-aggrandisement. It is a calling by Spirit to the service of others, often in their most vulnerable times of need.
The role of Medium is not to be taken lightly. In the moment of Mediumship, you represent another who wishes to communicate and offer comfort and solace to their loved ones. You are in service to Spirit.
And when commissioned by someone to make contact with their dearly departed, they do so for deeply personal reasons, often so complex and deep that they themselves cannot fathom their longing and merely scratch at its surface. Mortality, Grief, Abandonment, Bemusement, Regret, and often Anger and Resentment are just some of the emotions people feel with respect to their loss.
While a Medium is an impartial person providing contact and messages, we must always recognise the humanity and the suffering of the recipients. We must tread gently, compassionately and with grace as we walk at their sides during difficult times.
Do not lose Faith or be disheartened. It was never about you. Given the often unpredictable nature of spirit contact and the wants and needs of the recipiants, Mediumship is often a thankless task. You cannot always make contact with whom they want, but, more often than not, trust that you get who they need, even if they resist and deny it. First and foremost, you are a servant of Spirit and ALWAYS Spirit knows best.

Be of Good Cheer
It is important that as a Medium you take good care of yourself and work from a position of good health, and mental and spiritual stability. Therefore, honour God by caring for the body you have been blessed with and your mind, soul and spirit. Yes, in difficult times we all suffer. We are human. But still, we need, as Spiritualists and Mediums, to be resilient in carrying the messages we are charged with. We need to be a point of light in the darkness and remember that whilst we live in this world, we are not of this world. Do not be moved by foolishness and pettiness. Do not be distracted by others or the material world. Never let Hate, Fear or Resentment cloud your mind or stain your Soul. Always remember that you are better than that. You are a Servant of God, made in his image. Look to the heart of the matter around you. Recognise the suffering of others and perhaps your own, and let peace grow in your heart. Trust that Spirit is always with you. It is the fire in your hearth or your soul that brings light and warmth. It is the unseen mover that brings growth and change. In the moment, you may understand why things are as they are, but have faith and do not be confused or led astray.
Greet the day with a smile and gratitude, and be open to all the opportunities that may arise, be they trials and tribulations or joy and achievement. Remember that your life is a journey over rough and smooth ground and it is each step that you take that truly matters as the final destination is unknown.
After all, if you, as a Spiritualist and a Medium cannot see the light, then imagine what it is like for others.
